Digital planning and geographical information
HMS manages the development and implementation of digital planning and geographic databases on planning for maritime and coastal areas as well as environmental impact assessments.
The agency also oversees the development and maintenance of Skipulagsgátt planning portal, the planning map viewer Skipulagsvefsjá and other web-based viewers for digital planning.
Below you can access various planning-related geographical information and data maintained by HMS, with other useful data.
Digital planning
Municipal master plans and local plans must be prepared in digital format. This also applies to coastal and marine spatial plans. This is in accordance with the Planning Act and the Act on Marine and Coastal Planning.
Land-use maps are to be created in a standardised format within a Geographic Information System (GIS).
The formally approved and signed paper version of a master or local plan remains the legal reference. Digital planning complements traditional planning documents such as land use-maps and planning reports.
