Circular Lightweight Aggregate Composite (CLWAC) as a Carbon Sink
This project aimed to develop an innovative Circular Lightweight Aggregate Composite (CLWAC) with a carbon negative profile for use in structural concrete, targeting compressive strengths above 45 MPa. Leveraging Rockpore’s patent-pending production method, CLWAC was produced from 50–85% aggregate. The CLWAC was tailored with properties suited for structural concrete—optimized strength, density, water absorption, and durability—while maintaining environmental resilience. By focusing on scalable production methods, the project enabled CLWAC to replace traditional coarse and fine aggregates, thus contributing to a sustainable circular solution for the construction industry. This innovation supports the EU’s Climate Neutrality goals and aligns with the "Fit for 55" initiative, which targets a 55% emissions reduction by 2030.
